Downtown Revitalization Plans for Qualicum Beach

Community, Stories

Since last May, and with support from the Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICET), the downtown of Qualicum Beach has been preparing an innovative redesign that would transform its streets into a distinct and lively neighbourhood catering to technology, tourist, and commercial activities.

Redesigning The East Village

This new, appealing public area, called ‘The East Village,’ will ensure various values that contribute to Qualicum Beach’s vibrancy and economic success.

“The East Village will attract residential and commercial development and stimulate the area’s business and tourism organizations. This will help make it investment ready and definitely one of the places to be in Qualicum Beach!” – Mayor Brian Wiese.

Technology, Tourist, and Business Attraction

As part of the East Village Revitalization project, the uninviting and tired area of Qualicum Beach’s downtown will be transformed into a bustling and flourishing neighbourhood for both businesses and individuals. The renovations are intended to stimulate the creation of new mixed-use residential and commercial spaces, a brewery, and an innovation hub aimed at the town’s burgeoning tech industry.

“This project will help foster and attract new economic activity in the community’s growing tech sector, increasing diversity in the Town’s commercial and demographic mix.”  – ICET Board Chair, Josie Osborne.

This will also lay the groundwork for the next generation of economic activity and vibrancy sought by residents and investors. So far, the project is in its first construction phase, which has begun in August 2021. Keep an eye out for updates on the rebranding of Qualicum Beach’s community identity.
