About Qualicum Beach

Qualicum Beach is a unique picturesque town overflowing with small-town charm. With a population of approximately 9,000, the town is set amidst pristine sandy beaches, postcard picturesque views, and world-class biking and hiking trails. The community is a popular tourist destination and is prized as an ‘idyllic’ place to live.

The town is centrally located within an area that spans from Nanaimo on the south to Courtenay on the north and inland to Port Alberni. As such, it acts as a key location for many regional events and attracts neighbouring communities with its year-round farmer’s market and many other attractions. Qualicum Beach residents can easily access the beautiful and vibrant surrounding neighbourhoods & attractions, such as Mt Washington Ski Resort and Strathcona National Park (1hr), Courtenay & Cumberland with their world-renowned mountain bike trails & craft breweries (45 min), and Port Alberni a mecca for kiteboarders (40 min).

Community Overview

The region gets instantly smaller with the inclusion of a local airport. The Qualicum Beach airport provides regular flights to Vancouver, Abbotsford, Tofino, Victoria, and Nanaimo. Travel to surrounding areas is effortless and affordable, and allows the best of both worlds – business to operate regionally, while maintaining a local, small-town, natural lifestyle.

The Town has a unique economy that took a bold approach to ‘local’. You will not see a big brand store or fast food outlet in sight. Instead you will find locally owned coffee shops, restaurants, clothing stores, and retail. This makes the uptown core of Qualicum Beach a unique market in the region where ‘local’ is king. By encouraging and maintaining a range of services and retail in the Town, shoppers are happy to stay and shop locally.
